Benromach 15

ree

The Benromach 15-Year-Old single malt is a meticulously crafted whisky with a unique character, matured in first-fill bourbon and sherry casks for a rich, multi-layered profile. It presents dark amber hues and aromas of sweet toffee, pepper, and gentle peat smoke on the nose. The palate is a creamy blend of ripe apple, charred oak, dark chocolate, and toasted malt with hints of orange peel and a light smokiness. Its finish is medium and creamy, complemented by soft, dried fruit notes. My only issue with this is it’s almost too smooth; it’s delicious and I could drink it all night long but I just want a little more punch out of it. It gets a solid 90/100 from me but just needs a little more.

Darkness 8yr old

ree

The Darkness 8-Year-Old Speyside whisky offers a bold and sherried flavour profile. Aged first in ex-bourbon barrels they finish is for 2 years in custom-made Oloroso sherry octave casks, maximizing sherry impact for a rich, complex taste. We talking in a previous month about the effect a smaller octave cask has on the liquid when it matures. The result is a non-chill filtered, naturally coloured whisky with a nose of candied orange and spiced chocolate, a palate of toasted Amaretti biscuits and deep raisins, and a finish of subtle smoke and lingering chocolate. This continuous release brings the rich, sherried essence of Darkness whiskies to a wider audience. This is absolutely delightful: I enjoyed it just as much as the Benromach 15 and it had that extra bit f punch to it that I felt the Benromach was missing. 91/100

Signatory Ben Nevis 8yr

ree

We have another Signatory bottling and this time from the great Ben Nevis distillery/ It highlights eight years of maturation in oloroso sherry butts giving it that distinct sherried profile. Distilled in 2014, this release is part of the Un-Chillfiltered Collection, offering a vibrant, natural flavour profile. The nose reveals tropical fruit, green grape, and vanilla, while the palate layers green apples, peaches, raisins, and hazelnut with warm spices. A finish of cinnamon, black pepper, and sweet malt adds an enduring warmth, showcasing the unique qualities of sherry-aged Ben Nevis whiskies. This is well crafted very moreish. 89/100
