Helensburgh Whisky Festival Blind Tasting Drams Revealed

Thank you to all who came to the show at the weekend and everyone who blind tasted our 3 Drams - it was a different and interesting concept to a festival and I really enjoyed the conversations I had with everyone that came to sample.

However, now is the time to reveal the the 3 drams we sampled and the winner of the festival vote. We had 194 votes in total from the festival.

Nose Green apples, creamy grist and a touch of peppery barley, zesty notes of gooseberry. Palate Mouthfulls of soft oak and buttery malt, delicate fudge sweetness and soft layers of poached apricot. White chocolate buttons join in time, with a beautiful balance of vanilla and soft, biscuity spice beneath. Finish Mellow oak char, buttered popcorn, peach, soft, woody malt, vanilla cream.	Nose Red apple skins,strawberry laces, apricot jam, orange peel, fresh raspberries and mango slices in juice. Alongside them is a dusting of cacao powder, oaky vanilla, ginger beer, a little charred chilli pepper, then demerara sugar. Palate Soaked sultanas, ginger cake, cherries and cranberries. There’s also blackcurrants, dark chocolate and liquorice, as well as rye bread, stewed orchard fruit, aniseed and caramel. Finish Tropical and dark fruit notes echo into the finish, a tang of balsamic vinegar, a sprightly touch of peppermint and more of that red wine funk.	Nose Juicy citrus, candied ginger, and coastal smoke, with wood char in tow. Palate Fresh blueberry, sweet malt, and smouldering bonfire smoke. Finish Charred lemon peel, runny honey, and sweet smoke on the tail end.
