ree

Scotland’s whisky landscape is vast and diverse, offering something for every palate. Today, we’re diving into three standout expressions that showcase the country’s rich distilling traditions: Bunnahabhain 11 Discovery, Isle of Harris: The Hearach, and Lochlea Fallow 3rd Crop. Each of these whiskies brings its own story, character, and flavour profile—let’s take a closer look.

Bunnahabhain 11 Discovery: A Sherried Delight

Bunnahabhain, a beloved Islay distillery known for its maritime influence and typically unpeated or lightly peated expressions, finds its way into Gordon & MacPhail’s Discovery range — a collection designed to simplify whisky selection by categorizing bottles into 'Sherried,' 'Smoky,' and 'Bourbon' profiles. This 11-year-old release proudly sits in the ‘Sherried’ category, promising a rich and fruity experience.

Nose: Cloves, orange zest, butterscotch, and nutmeg.

Palate: drying barley with a hint of hops and malted milk, sweet plums and sultanas.

Finish: Caramelized nuts and more dried apricots.

This whisky is a wonderful choice for those who appreciate deep sherry influence with a touch of spice and complexity.

Isle of Harris: The Hearach – A Historic Debut

For the first time ever, whisky from the Isle of Harris has arrived! The Hearach single malt is an exciting release that embodies the essence of the Outer Hebrides. Crafted using soft, mineral-rich waters from Abhainn Cnoc a’ Charrain and 100% Scottish Concerto barley, this whisky carries a touch of history in every sip. Lightly peated at 12-15ppm, The Hearach benefits from an extended fermentation of up to five days and maturation in Fino butts, first-fill bourbon, and oloroso sherry casks. Bottled at 46% ABV without chill filtration or additional coloring, this is a truly authentic island dram.

Nose: Beach bonfires, orchard fruits, ginger, vanilla, and floral honey.

Palate: Scottish tablet, apples, nutty malt, clotted cream, and gentle peat smoke.

Finish: Bright and delicately smoky.

This whisky is a must-try for those who appreciate a balanced combination of coastal influence, delicate peat, and layered sweetness.

Lochlea Fallow 3rd Crop: A Sherry-Soaked Masterpiece

Rounding out our selection is the final edition of Lochlea’s Fallow trilogy, an impressive closing chapter to this seasonal release. This single malt has matured in first-fill oloroso sherry butts from Jerez, resulting in a dark and indulgent whisky with an extra layer of depth compared to its predecessors.

Nose: Delightful baked apple and sweet Medjool dates.

Palate: Manuka honey and nutty fresh malted bread.

Finish: Rich buttery sandalwood oils and mixed peppercorns.

Perfect for those who enjoy a sherried whisky with richness, spice, and lingering warmth.
